Compliance path 6: Product certification

This option is limited to building methods and products that have achieved CodeMark status.

Building methods and products that are certified under the CodeMark™ scheme provide a means of compliance that must be accepted by building consent authorities, if the product is being used according to the certificate and its instructions. In effect, certification has equivalent legal status to a Acceptable Solution or Verification Method.

The CodeMark product certificate indicates that the product has passed relevant testing criteria. CodeMarks are issued by a product certification body that has been appointed by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand, a joint venture between the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Australian Building Codes Board.

Product certification, currently still in its infancy, is not likely to be commonly used when getting a renovation solution consented simply because the range of certified products is relatively small.
